EARNING WEALTH

What Is Wealth?

Wealth in Seyruun is a Background trait ranked from (1) to ●●●●●●●●●● (10). It represents your character’s financial engine: recurring income derived from holdings, trade routes, temple coffers, magical investments, or commercial ventures.

Wealth dots determine how much passive income your character earns during downtime. They do not replace actual coin or gem tracking. All purchases must be paid from a character’s current funds.

This system ensures both realism and progression. Players must manage their funds, budget expenditures, and record all gains and losses manually.

Currency System Overview

Seyruun operates on two culturally distinct but interchangeable economic systems:

All values are unified on a numeric scale. Coin and gem value are interchangeable in markets and banks across Seyruun.

Example Conversion: 2 Gold (10 value) = 1 Diamond (10 value)

Coin and Gem Tracking

Players are responsible for maintaining a ledger of their financial state. This includes:

  • Income from Wealth dots

  • Rewards from quests or bounties

  • Treasure looted or bartered

  • Purchases, investments, or bribes

All characters must track:

  • Total value on hand

  • Coin and gem form (e.g., "3 Gold, 2 Diamonds")

  • Stored wealth (vaults, banks, caravans, etc.)

There are no abstract funds or automatic item access. You must pay for everything with real value.

Monthly Passive Income by Wealth Dots

At the beginning of each in-game month (or equivalent downtime cycle), characters receive a recurring monthly stipend based on their Wealth rating. This stipend is added to the character's coin/gem ledger and may be spent, saved, or invested as the player sees fit.

This income is considered a baseline for maintaining lifestyle, managing retainers, and funding daily or regional operations. It reflects the expected economic return for your financial standing.

Income is cumulative and carries forward if unspent. Characters are responsible for tracking the total value they receive per month and ensuring that it is accurately reflected in their ledger.

Spending & Inventory

All purchases must be made using the player’s tracked currency.

Example: You wish to purchase a weapon worth 250 value. Even if you have Wealth ●●, you may still buy it if you have saved enough coin or gems.

Wealth Advancement Table

Wealth advancement represents the long-term growth of a character’s financial empire. Unlike temporary income spikes from treasure or contracts, Wealth dots reflect stability: land ownership, permanent businesses, and scalable trade routes. To ensure consistency with Seyruun’s world-building, all increases must be meaningful and represented in-character.

To increase your Wealth rating, you must:

  1. Spend XP (see below)

  2. Justify your new dot with a matching profession, enterprise, or financial role

  3. Receive Storyteller approval (to confirm narrative consistency)

Temporary Wealth

Temporary Wealth represents all one-time or situational value gains not tied to your Wealth background. This includes:

  • Treasure hoards discovered during exploration

  • Quest or mission payments

  • One-time bounties, arena prizes, or tribute

  • Gifts from nobles, gods, or Concord lords

Temporary wealth must be:

  • Fully tracked in your coin/gem ledger

  • Used before it’s gone – once spent, it does not regenerate

  • Stored or invested wisely – you may protect it through vaults, magical seals, or secure locations

You may not use temporary wealth to purchase permanent Wealth Dots. However, you may use it to:

  • Purchase expensive items or upgrades

  • Fund other players

  • Launch a new business or enterprise (which may lead to roleplay justification for Wealth dot advancement)

Temporary Wealth is any non-dot-based financial gain, such as:

  • Loot from enemies or ruins

  • Mission rewards

  • Gifts, bribes, or divine windfalls

This value:

  • Does not count toward Wealth dots

  • Must be logged like all other coinage

  • Is fully spendable for any purchase

Players may store temporary wealth in vaults, use it to fund others, or invest it in property.

The World is yours to create, how are  you going to mold it?
